Here are some simples ideas for how to keep your greenthumb from going brown during the winter.
1. Catnip
This is especially useful if you have a cat, or know someone who loves cats. Catnip is easy to grow as it is part of the mint family. It doesn't need a ton of light and is fun to grow for any level gardener. These plants are hearty enough to survive in the window inside over the winter, so you can grow catnip for you cat relative all year round. If you know of someone who will be receiving a kitten this Christmas or Holiday season, one way to surprise them is to give them some Catnip and Catgrass(or wheatgrass) as a clue. The brand we recommend is Botanical Interests.
2. Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass is has great nutrional value and is particularly useful as a supplement in those green smoothies usually consisting of Kale, cucumber, Kiwi, etc. Another tidbit is wheatgrass is something that cats also enjoy. So this is another one that doubles for a treat for the cats. If you know of someone who will be receiving a kitten this Christmas or Holiday season, one way to surprise them is to give them some Catnip and Catgrass(or wheatgrass) as a clue.
3. Microgreens
Growing microgreens is useful for garnish and for saving some money. Microgreens can be pretty pricey at the grocery stores, however it isn't that hard to grow with some planning and window space. It can also be grow all year long for that matter. This is one of the most useful things to put in your window, I do this often. Keeping seeds around to grow this when I want them is way better than going to the store and paying for them. I feel like its a small way I can participate in growing my own food, then I am able to recycle the soil into my potted plants or outdoor garden space.
