For many folks in America, the burger is something that has a unique taste, quite distinguishable from the many fake meat products that have been attempted. At least, this was the experience I had.
I have always had an interest in reducing my meat consumption while still trying to eat something tasty and fairly healthy, but always struggled to find that something to replace it. When I tried Beyond Meat, my expectations were high, and spoiler alert; its quite distinguishable from the real thing.
After trying Beyond Meat in a few different ways, I decided I would try Impossible Burger with my family. We had resolved that we would make burgers with different seasonings, just in case the "meat" product needed it. On top of disguising questionable meat products, we would also know which seasoning tasted the best and be able to recommend a good seasoning to others.
Once we prepared the burgers, we quartered them and tried each the burgers with the different seasonings ranked from favorite to least favorite:
Watkin's Organic Steak Seasoning
2. Weber Steak Salt Free
3. Watkin's Organic Seafood & Poultry Seasoning
Good, but didn't quite go with the flavor of the Impossible Burger
4. Brady's
Too salty (i.e. mostly salt), was the least favorite as a result
Our favorite of the test was Watkin's Organic Steak Seasoning.
My family devoured the burgers as if they were the real thing, the seasoning made no difference. The unseasoned burgers were just as good. We added topping after the initial tasting and everyone was satisifed with 0 complaints.
With a shift in society and some family members trending towards healthier and more eco-conscious diets, it's good to know this met expectations. Honestly, each seasoning was great on this "meat", and if you gave this to 90% of people as a burger shown in the photos, none would be the wiser. They would be fooled thinking they ate a real meat burger. Like if McDonalds swapped this out for their current patties, I doubt most regulars would even notice. Unfortunately to say, this is absolutely not the case with Beyond Meat. Beyond Meat needs a lot of toppings and ketchup to be tasty while Impossible is just closer to real thing it seems. I recommend trying Impossible out, especially if you have only tried Beyond Meat. You never know, Impossible could just "meat" your expectations!
If you are looking for a meatless solution for a loved one or something around 4th of July or a Meatless Monday idea, think about trying Impossible Burgers. Impossible could be a happy middle for your vegetarian party-goers as well as the omnivores.
Is Beyond Meat better than Impossible Burgers?
This could be a matter of opinion, maybe preparation. But I have tried Beyond Meat in a few different ways, as well as in burgers, and I was happier with the taste of the Impossible Burger meat as a similar comparison to ground beef, or hamburger meat. When you season it with your favorite seasoning, its really hard to tell apart from the real thing. You can see in the photo, the juice is coming out like blood from a normal burger. I don't think the Beyond Meat did the same thing. I am confident saying you could easily trick someone into eating Impossible Burger, but not so confident saying the same thing about Beyond Meat.
Beyond Meat vs. Impossible Burger
Impossible Burger is an overall better looking and tasting version of the meatless hamburger. There is no indication which is healthier, or even how healthy this heavily processed meatless option is; however Impossible Burger currently tastes closer and replicates hamburger meat the closest.
Where can I buy Impossible Burger?
Impossible Burger can be bought as most grocery stores such as Sprouts, Whole Foods, Target, WalMart, Albertsons, Kroger, etc. It can also be found in certain fast food restaurants like Burger King, White Castle, Little Ceaser's, etc. as well as other restaurants like TopGolf, Applebee's, Cheesecake Factory, etc. that are incorporating vegetarian options into the menu.
